I am changing the format of my reviews because I can’t give enough detailed information and a proper reason for my opinion without spoiling the movies so that is what I am going to do.
SPOILER WARNING!!!!
This one is a renter. I was wondering why it was not a blockbuster when it came out. I blamed the advertising. This movie seemed COOL! Nick Cage, Jessica Beil. He sees the future! Action, adventure, and a kick ass premise. Nick is a magician/psychic who really is psychic. So he is hiding in plain sight.
The catch is he only sees two minutes into the future. Except when it comes to Jessica for some unexplained reason.
So the government wants him to stop a terrorist nuclear attack - yeah a little over used in movies but I could live with it. But Nick does not want to cooperate, so they go after him. He uses his ability to trick them and escape by the skin of his teeth.
The bad guys(french!) have the government agents under surveillance so they say to themselves, ”If the government wants him so bad then we have to kill him.”
Yeah I know, a little silly but like I said before, I could live with it if it stays COOL.
So they go running around alot and the bad guys get Jessica so Nick cooperates with the government and there is a big battle with explosions and etc. But then a nuke goes off and Nick says “I made a big mistake.” and they all die.
Then he wakes up back at the grand canyon before any of it happens and goes out and cooperates with the agents instead of running and drives off like it never happened, which is true, it never did.
So now I know why it was not a hit:
No one likes that kind of ending -it was all a dream - etc. People have two hours of emotional investment in the plot and then when you tell them it never happened they feel like they have been ripped off. It is a big waste of time.
It sucks.
Now what I would have done for an ending is something different, something tricky and cool.
I don’t know. It’s too late to rewrite it so I won’t put any effort into it.
